The Right Shade of Colors (Over a Whiff of Wind)

What’s Your Relationship with That Woman?

“Qingyan-jie.” Su Yan jogged over, glancing several times at the tall woman with her back turned to them.

Bai Ruo was equally uneasy. She had only been saying it casually; who would have thought there really was another woman beside Qin Qingyan?

At the sound of her voice, the woman turned. When she saw them clearly, she smiled. “Su Su, Bai Ruo, what are you doing here?”

Yu Shuran?

“Yu Teacher!” Su Yan said in surprise. Yu Shuran had been out of the public eye for a long time; fans could only remember her through her old works. Her Weibo hadn’t been updated in two or three years, and she was practically semi-retired. How had they run into her here, and with Qin Qingyan of all people?

Bai Ruo didn’t know her well, but she had heard of her. Out of courtesy, she smiled and greeted her back. “Yu Teacher, what a coincidence. Running into you here really is fate, haha.”

The man smoking a cigarette saw yet more people arrive; all of them were women, and he sneered dismissively. He had plenty of time to waste.

Qin Qingyan hurriedly asked them, “How’s Yan Yue’s foot?”

“Don’t worry; it’s been massaged, and Li Xian’s with her,” Bai Ruo said.

“Li Xian?”

“That can wait. What happened here? A car accident?” Bai Ruo looked at the scene. The damage to the right side of the other car’s front end was obvious, but it wasn’t exactly horrendous.

“It’s just a small matter. Wouldn’t insurance handle it? Was it really necessary to drag this out so long? I thought the car must have flipped or something.” Bai Ruo frowned.

The driver said, “We wanted to, but they insisted it was our fault and refused to let it go, saying they had to wait for the traffic police to decide. I think he saw we were in a hurry and deliberately stalled us.”

Qin Qingyan’s gaze was on Yan Yue in the car in the distance. “You wait here for the traffic police; I’ll go over for a bit.”

“Hey! Trying to leave? The matter isn’t settled yet...” The man called after Qin Qingyan.

Bai Ruo cut him off. “Hey, hey, hey, what the hell are you hey-hey-hey-ing for? Who said we were leaving? Is your vision so bad you can’t even see the headlights are smashed?”

When Yan Yue saw Qin Qingyan coming over, she lowered the car window. “Is it troublesome?”

Qin Qingyan smiled and shook her head, looking at her for a long moment. “I missed you.”

Yu Shuran, standing at a distance, saw the scene. She had seen Qin Qingyan smile before; it gave people a sense of steadiness and reassurance. But she had never seen such a clear, bright smile, like a child’s.

Curiously, she looked toward the passenger seat. Because of the reflection, she couldn’t see inside.

“Get to the point,” Yan Yue said.

“This is the point,” Qin Qingyan said, leaning against the car window and staring straight at Yan Yue.

Yan Yue rarely felt at a loss. For some reason, she suddenly missed the Qin Qingyan of the past, the one who would blush with just a little teasing.

“You’re really learning these things fast.”

Qin Qingyan raised an eyebrow, her gaze deepening. “I’m twenty-three.”

Yan Yue turned her face away, the tips of her ears slightly hot; the scene from that night surfaced in her mind. She shouldn’t have said that extra sentence.

“Just now, I heard Bai Ruo mention Li Xian. Are they together?” Qin Qingyan asked.

“Almost,” Yan Yue said. “There are people coming and going on the street; don’t linger too long.”

“Mm, I know. The traffic police should be here soon too.”

Not long after, a police car stopped nearby, and several traffic police officers got out and walked over.

Yan Yue said, “Go deal with it.”

“No. With them there, it’s the same; they don’t need me. I want to stay with you a little longer.”

Although she was telling Qin Qingyan to go handle the matter, Yan Yue liked this clingy side of hers.

Noticing Yu Shuran watching from over there, Yan Yue lifted a hand and rested it around Qin Qingyan’s neck. “Come closer; I have something to tell you.”

What a bonus!

Qin Qingyan hurriedly leaned in, tilting her ear to listen.

Yan Yue bent close and whispered in her ear, her breath soft and fragrant, “What’s your relationship with that woman?”

Her ear itched; so did her heart. Qin Qingyan’s lips curved upward. So this was what it felt like to have your heart bloom with joy.

She looked at Yan Yue, her eyes bright and shining.

“I want a kiss,” Qin Qingyan said, her heart full to overflowing with happiness.

Yan Yue turned her head away and ignored her.

Still beaming, Qin Qingyan leaned in and kissed the side of Yan Yue’s face.

Satisfied.

“Colleague, senior, just someone I happened to run into; nothing more. I’m very proper; there’s only you.”

Qin Qingyan suddenly remembered something and glanced at the time. There was only a little over an hour left.

She looked at Yan Yue, and Yan Yue understood what she meant too. In an hour, they still had to go to the film crew.

The traffic police had already handled things on that side, but someone still needed to go with them to the traffic police station. After the driver left with the traffic police, Su Yan invited Yu Shuran to ride with them to the film crew.

On the way, Qin Qingyan kept glancing at Yan Yue in the front passenger seat. If Yu Shuran hadn’t been there, she would have leaned over to talk to her and get closer to her.

She let out a faint sigh.

Yu Shuran wasn’t completely offline; she knew a little about Qin Qingyan and her girlfriend. Though she couldn’t see the whole picture, just from Yan Yue’s side profile she could tell she was an attractive woman.

Bai Ruo, on the other hand, could see right through her good sister’s thoughts. Looking out the window, she said, “It’ll only take twenty minutes to get to the film crew. Going too early isn’t much fun anyway; the weather’s nice, so why don’t we go to the park and get some sun?”

Qin Qingyan immediately looked at Bai Ruo and gave her a thumbs-up.

Yu Shuran saw the eager look on Qin Qingyan’s face and agreed. It really wasn’t that urgent.

After parking, Qin Qingyan hurried to the trunk, took out a wheelchair, and carefully picked Yan Yue up before pushing her to a warm spot. Yu Shuran was surprised that Qin Qingyan’s girlfriend actually had problems with her legs.

She asked Su Yan, “What happened to her legs?”

“Yu Teacher, do you remember that Zheng Jingteng incident that caused such a stir before?” Su Yan said.

“Somewhat.”

“At the time, he drove into Qingyan-jie, but Yan-zong pushed her away and took the impact herself. She was badly injured, and now her legs are in rehabilitation,” Su Yan said.

“I see.”

To protect someone else to the point of risking her life... still, Qin Qingyan really was worth it.

The two of them were truly rare.

In a less crowded spot in the park, Qin Qingyan stopped and sat cross-legged in front of Yan Yue.

“Let me rub your legs.”

“Li Xian already did,” Yan Yue said.

“I know, but I still want to rub them.”

Qin Qingyan rolled up her pant leg. Her calf was fair and straight, with hardly any muscle. She had seen the legs of people who couldn’t recover; in the later stages, they became frighteningly thin, like skin stretched over bone.

“You need to eat more, okay? Being too thin isn’t good.” Qin Qingyan said softly.

“I’ve already put on quite a bit of weight.”

“Still not enough.”

After finishing the massage, she let the pant leg fall back down and leaned in to rest her head on Yan Yue’s lap. Yan Yue raised a hand to stroke her cheek, her fingertips moving lightly.

“It’ll get better...” Qin Qingyan said.

“This is fine too. I still get to enjoy your service every day; free service from a big star.”

Qin Qingyan said, “I’ll serve you even when you get better. Getting better is good.”

Yan Yue said nothing. How could she not want that? But this long road of rehabilitation had made it hard for her to see an end.

At the film crew, Qin Qingyan was reading the script when she suddenly heard someone call her. She looked up and saw Yan Huan waving and jogging over with a smile.

“Huanhuan?” Qin Qingyan was surprised to run into her here.

Looking at that face that resembled Yan Yue’s somewhat, Qin Qingyan felt her mood lift quite a bit.

“I’m done with work. I heard you were filming over here, so I came to have a look,” Yan Huan said.

Qin Qingyan teased her, “Really just to have a look?”

“What else? Checking up on you? I wouldn’t do that. My sister doesn’t seem like such a petty person either.”

“Yes, yes, yes. Your sister has the biggest heart; she’s not worried at all that I’ll be snatched away by someone.”

Yan Huan laughed. “That’s because Qingyan-jie, you always respond to everything and handle every matter with proper boundaries. There’s really no need to worry.”

“You’re praising me so much it’s almost like you’re presenting me with flowers, but I’m very pleased. I’ll buy you candy next time.” Qin Qingyan said.

Yan Huan said, “I’m not a child anymore; I don’t like candy. Someone gave me all kinds of sweets before, and I picked out most of them to send to Jingsheng. My sister can’t go out and have fun much usually, so eating something sweet can make her feel better.”

Qin Qingyan savored that for a moment. “That candy was indeed very sweet. Especially sweet.”

“If Qingyan-jie likes it too, I’ll send you more another day. I still have plenty.”

Qin Qingyan smiled and agreed. Looking into Yan Huan’s eyes, she thought that those eyes were the most like Yan Yue’s. Only, Yan Huan’s were full of the hopeful brightness of a young girl looking forward to the future, the kind that made people feel full of life at a glance.

Yan Yue, on the other hand, when you met her gaze, it felt like looking at fog through fog; you couldn’t see through her, and it was easy to get lost in her. Even her joy and anger were tools in her hands.

Someone like that was undoubtedly dangerous, but she had still fallen for her, fallen for the sight of those eyes filled with herself in moments of passion.

Pulling herself back, Qin Qingyan reached out and patted Yan Huan’s head. “Work hard, big star. How about we act in something together sometime?”

Yan Huan’s eyes lit up, and she hurriedly nodded. Then wouldn’t that mean she could see her sister more often whenever she came to visit the set?!

No one noticed a staff member quietly taking a sneaky photo of the scene with his phone.

He lowered the brim of his baseball cap and turned to leave, but not watching where he was going, he accidentally bumped into someone. He quickly apologized and kept walking out, only for the person he had hit to shift sideways and block him. After a few tries, he was certain the other person was doing it on purpose.

“That was thoughtful of you; let me see how well you shot it.” The woman’s voice was unhurried, but it carried pressure.

The man looked up, and after recognizing her, panic flashed across his face. “Xu, Xu Shuran jie?”

“It’s you. I’ve seen you a few times; so you’re a part-time reporter too?” Xu Shuran said with a smile.

“What do you mean? I don’t really understand. I still have work to do.”

“You can be busy, but hand it over,” Xu Shuran said.

Quite a few staff members had noticed what was happening and came over.

“I don’t know how much the other side paid you, but it’s up to you whether you want a one-time side income or a stable job.” Xu Shuran looked at the gathering staff. “You wouldn’t want to lose your job for nothing, would you?”

After some struggle, the man said, “I’ll delete it.” Then he left quickly.

A staff member came over curiously and asked, “What happened, Xu Shuran jie?”

“Nothing. He was careless and bumped into me. Go back to work.” Xu Shuran smiled and looked toward Yan Huan, who was talking with Qin Qingyan.

She suddenly realized that the woman in the wheelchair looked somewhat like Yan Huan. Earlier, Su Yan had called that person “Yan-zong”; her surname was Yan. Could they be sisters?

Yan... Yan Group?
